My favorite bon mot by photographer Elliot Erwitt: (1928-2023) "You can't make funny pictures if you don't live in a funny world. " "Funny" is a funny word -- I can't think of a photograph that makes me break out in a hearty laugh (not even one by Elliot Erwitt). But once in a while one does make me smile.

"Working Remotely" -- Olympic Sculpture Garden.
This dates from well before the notion of remote work had become "a thing" but it was a hot day, there was a handy electric outlet. ....
Then there is the notion of "funny" as surreal. Extra points if you can guess what this guy was doing. (answer at the end of this post)

And then there are dogs -- one of Elliot Erwitt's favorite subjects for funny pictures -- mine, too.

Two with everything -- hold the buns.
Finally there are photographs of people having fun. I photographed this potter working in his studio. Most of the photographs show this highly-skilled artist/craftsman at his potter's wheel, intent on the beautiful piece he was making. My favorite was this one -- showing how much fun he was having making small, goofy piece.

The guy with the pipe -- he, a musician/composer/teacher, was convinced that if he sang the right tone into that pipe (probably 30 feet long) he could make is resonate like an organ pipe. His workshop students were clustered around the other end, listening. (He could do it, by the way.)
