OCCIDENTAL SQUARE

Occidental Park and Occidental Square are adjacent open spaces in Seattle's Pioneer Square District.  Despite significant attention from the city, they have been, well, troubled areas for years.  There was a brief renaissance during which Occidental Square became a thriving gallery district -- nearly every building opening onto the square was a gallery except for an excellent coffe shop on the corner of Dearborn.

The "first Thursday" art walk was thronged with visitors, there was music on adjoining Occidental Park, and a good time was definitely had by all.  I did a short term project on Occidental Square and it was shown in the now-closed Market Photo gallery near 1st and Pike.

Alas, almost all the gallerys have all fled to be replaced by offices.
