Perhaps I should have titled this "random ranting and raving" instead
of "reviews". These are all, of course, only my opinion and
nothing that you can sue me for (even if I had enough money to be worth suing).

Lomography and
plastic cameras in general |
A while back there was
a fad for the Lomo camera -- a Russian design aggressively marketed in
Europe and the US as the answer to all possible photographic needs.
Fortunately it has pretty much died away but the echoes are still rebounding
and other plastic cameras are still very much with us. While I'm not
down on plastic cameras in general or the Lomo in particular, I am down on
the hype that surrounds them and the ostentatiously arty work that comes out
of most of them.

Father Louie |
"Father Louie" is a book of
photographs of Thomas Merton (author, philosopher, theologian, teacher,
Trappist monk) by Ralph Eugene Meatyard. It is a complex book about a
complex person by a complex artist. I like it.

Why I stopped going
to camera clubs. |
I am a camera club drop-out.
The usual camera club format and activities were not aiding my progress as a
photographer. I was asked to speak at a local club to which I formerly
belonged and show my work -- and tell them why I no longer belonged.
