Why
get organized?
David Hurn says (paraphrased I'm sure
since I can't find the original) that if you don't have a scheme for filing
your negatives you might as well throw them in the dustbin straight away.
I have been photographing long enough
to have a lot of negatives and prints. Hunting through three-ring
binders and boxes every time I wanted to reprint a negative got very old.
I developed, by trial and error by the way, a scheme for organizing my
negatives and prints that works and isn't burdensome to keep up. In
essence it is a relational database implemented in three-ring notebooks.
If I had a laptop computer at the time I started (about 10 years ago) I
would have it on a computer. It would work fine in Access or some
other database program.
The pdf file has all the details.
It might work for you, too. Or
my scheme might inspire you to create a method that works better for you.
I'm convinced that any reasonable scheme is so much better
than no scheme at all that the details don't make much
difference.
