A gray bird landed on a blinding street,

distracting the dog who wanted

to take the photographer’s camera

between his jaws. It takes just an instant

to ruin a roll of undeveloped film. Light

singes the child’s back and outstretched arms,

makes foam of his blonde hair and pedaling feet.

 

 

The dog on the right was deciding whether

to make friends or to challenge me

until the bird distracted him.
